The Nordic House is an icon of Nordic aesthetics and a cultural institution intended to foster and support cultural connections between Iceland and the Nordic countries. The building is an architectural gem situated in Vatsnmýri, only a 10-minute walk from Reykjavík city centre. The Nordic House organises a diverse program of exhibitions, events, and activities of note in the Icelandic cultural calendar. The house was designed by acclaimed Finnish modernist architect Alvar Aalto (1898-1976). It features most of Aalto’s signature traits and is furnished by his beautiful designs. The Nordic House features a unique library, the restaurant Plantan bistró, a boutique with Nordic design objects, as well as concert and exhibition halls showcasing rich art, culture, and design. An event schedule along with a ticketing service can be found at nordichouse.is.
