Ólafsdalur by Gilsfjörður; History of 1000 years

The main exhibition of Ólafsdalur are the recently found remains of a Viking longhouse from the 9th-10th century. Ólafsdalur is a small valley, surrounded by high mountains, where the first agricultural school in Iceland was established in 1880. The exhibition features a beautiful school building from 1896 and the remains of buildings and man-made structures from 1880-1900, as well as interesting walking paths and exhibitions about the history of the school. Coffee and light refreshments are available, as well organic vegetables grown in Ólafsdalur.
