The Culture Houses of Kópavogur

Gerðarsafn Art Museum and the Natural History Museum of Kópavogur along with Kópavogur Public Library and the concert hall Salurinn form the Culture Houses of Kópavogur. Museum’s. Located at the heart of Kópavogur, the Culture Houses can be reached in only 10-15 minutes by bus from Reykjavik center.
Gerðarsafn is a progressive museum with an emphasis on modern and contemporary art. The exhibition program echoes the museum’s status as the only Icelandic museum built in honor of a female artist, sculptor Gerður Helgadóttir (1928-1975).
The Natural History Museums’ exhibition emphasis on geology and Icelandic wildlife, including the arctic fox and numerous species of fish, birds and mollusks along with Japanese style “Marimo” lake balls.
Kópavogur Public Library welcomes guests with a good selection of books and magazines and music lovers can enjoy all kinds of concerts at Salurinn. At Café Garðskálinn guests can enjoy delicious refreshments at the opening hours of Gerðarsafn.
