Free guided tour of the National Gallery of Iceland

Exhibition director Birta Guðjónsdóttir and Pétur Arason art collector will guide guests through the exhibit: TEXTI – VALIN TEXTAVERK ÚR SAFNI PÉTURS ARASONAR OG RÖGNU RÓBERTSDÓTTUR/TEXT – SELECTED TEXTS FROM THE PRIVATE COLLECTION OF PÉTURS ARASONAR AND RÖGNU RÓBERTSDÓTTUR.

The tour will begin on Sunday, December 11th. at 2pm.

For 40 years, Pétur along with his wife Ragna, have collected art and put up numerous exhibitions and shows from his collection. Items from their collection have appeared in museums, galleries and in their own private exhibition spaces in Reykjavik and Berlin. Between 1992-1997 Pétur and Ingólfur Arnarsson ran the exhibition space Önnur hæð located at Péturs and Ragna’s private residence. In 2003, Pétur and Ragna founded SAFN, which was open to the public until 2008. From 2008, Pétur and Ragna have focussed on their exhibition spaces in Reykjavik and Berlin.

The exhibition TEXTI has on display around 50 texts about Icelandic and international artists. The individual texts are selected from Péturs and Ragna’s private collection, which numbers around 1000 texts. They both have been collecting contemporary art since the 1970’s.
